Technical Search Engine Optimization

Technical SEO

Every website deals with it: search engine indexation. How do you get your page on a good place in Google or Bing, and how can you make sure of it in a technical perspective?

Of course there are standard things that have to be done, and be done correctly:

  • Robots.txt
  • Sitemap
  • URL structure
  • Descriptions & Title
  • Headings (h1 > h6)

But there’s more than just this. For example, you have to make sure that the page titles, the meta tags, the alt tags,.. are set correctly and that you’re sure that there’s no duplicate content. There are a lot of other things you can do to improve your indexation. But how are you going to tackle this and which SEO parts are the most important?

From a basic SEO point of view, this is the order in which we at Humix look at this:

  • Robots.txt
  • Sitemap
  • Meta Description
  • Headings
  • Title
  • Meta keywords
  • Accessibility for search engines
  • Search Console

But there’s more than just the basics

Of course Humix looks beyond this. By adding some little things to the structure of your site you can make sure that Google gets your data faster, and more of it. Some of these things are:

  • Structured data
  • Href lang
  • Rel alternate
  • Canonicals
  • Redirects
  • Internal linking
  • Http or https
  • Mobile first

But what is the effect of all these things and why do you need this? We’ll explain this to you over the course of different blog articles, starting with Structured Data. Of course the use of these different types of things-to-do are different for every website. That’s why we at Humix start with a elaborate analysis to be able to give you recommendations tailor-made for your company.

Structured Data

Structured Data is a code which you place on your webpage and with which Google can see (understand) what’s on this page.

For an e-commerce website you would want Google to be able to read your product data because you want the relevance of your page to be as high as possible. By adding structured data you can actually mark information with a pre-defined tag. These tags can be for example ‘price’, ‘brand’, ‘color’, ‘review’ or ‘name’. With these tags you can show this information to the users in Google.
